The Hip-Hop Unit, students explore the cultural, historical and musical background of Hip-Hop. Students learn and understand the concept of form with two parts: verse and chorus. Students also study different essential instrumental aspects of a hip-hop “classic” song: harmonic accompaniment, bass line, melodic motif or “hook” and beat. For the first time this year, students have the opportunity to grade themselves and have a discussion with myself about their grade.
